ENPM/GCEN New Student Orientation:
Dear New Student:
Welcome to the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland. We are excited to have you begin your degree program and hope this will be a great benefit to you. Please know that our staff is here to help you be a success in the Clark School.
To help you begin your studies we've put together a presentation about our programs and have uploaded several key documents that you will need along the way towards completing your degree. You can download the presentation from our recent new student orientation program here.
The documents that we hope will answer many of your questions about registration, deadlines, advising and graduation are uploaded in PDF format in the column to the right. They were developed to guide you as you make your way through the program. Of course, if you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact us. .
Advising - Your official advisor is the individual listed on the advisors web page for your area of specialization. Please contact your advisor directly for guidance on coursework for the upcoming term. If you are ever in doubt concerning a course you plan to take, always seek your advisor’s approval before registering for the course.
Continuous Registration Requirement - All graduate students at the University of Maryland are now required to register for classes each semester (fall and spring), unless they first request a Petition for Waiver of Continuous Registration. This policy does not apply to summer or winter terms. If you will not be registering for classes in the fall semester, please fill out and return to our office the enclosed Petition by July 25.
Graduation - please notify us one semester prior to your expected graduation to ensure that all paperwork is processed in a timely fashion. In addition, you must submit the online Graduation Candidate Application prior to July 1st for summer graduation or September 1st for fall graduation, and January 15 for spring graduation.
Tuition and Fees - varies by the delivery method in which you take course. Student fees are assessed separately and may also vary depending upon where you are taking your classes. Please go to our tuition web page for the latest information.
If you need additional information, please call Kerri Poppler James at (301) 405-2355.
Sincerely,
Dr. George Syrmos
