Online Masters in Fire Protection Engineering Policies and Procedures:
The academic calendar for the online Professional Master of Engineering in Fire Protection Engineering (ENGF) program at the University of Maryland consists of four 12-week terms. Courses may begin after the first day of the on campus semester and/or end prior to the last day of the on campus semester. Students should check http://www.oaee.umd.edu/grad/fire/class-schedule.html for program specific information, including course schedules.
Registering for Online Fire Protection Engineering Courses
Students may register for online Fire Protection Engineering courses once they have received an official notification of admission to the program. New students will need to set up a Directory ID and Password at www.directory.umd.edu in order to access the registration site. Students must register using Testudo at www.testudo.umd.edu. From this site, students may select the “Registration and Records” link to proceed with registration.
To register, students must enter in the course number (i.e. ENFP625), section number (EF01) and grading method (R). The number of credits should automatically be entered.
To verify you are registered, click on the “Student Schedule” link to view your classes for the term.
Late Registration
Students must register BEFORE the first day of a course. Students who wish to register on or after the first day of a course must obtain permission from the instructor. A $20 late registration fee will be assessed to registrations initiated on or after the first day of a course. Please note: Late registrants are responsible for payment of tuition and fees at the time of registration.
Cancellation of Registration
Students who register for a course or courses but later decide not to participate must cancel their registration prior to the first day of class. Notification of cancellation may be made via e-mail to kjames3@umd.edu. This request should include the student's full name, UID and the course(s) to be cancelled. Failure to cancel registration prior to the first day of class will result in a financial obligation to the university, regardless of student participation in the course or courses.
Dropping Courses
Students who wish to drop a course or courses, but not withdraw from all courses in a particular term are subject to the following tuition penalties. A formal request to drop a course or courses must be made in writing by emailing kjames3@umd.edu.

Online Fire Protection Engineering Courses Canceled by the University of Maryland
The University of Maryland reserves the right to cancel courses due to insufficient enrollment or other valid administrative reasons. Once a course has been canceled, students enrolled in that class are entitled to a full refund of tuition and fees associated with that course. Cancellation of a course may occur close to the first day of class; however, the university makes every effort to inform students of such changes so that there is an opportunity to make alternate course selections or arrangements.
Tuition and Fees
The tuition and fees for online Fire Protection Engineering courses can be found at http://www.oaee.umd.edu/grad/tuition-fees.html.
Bill Payment
The University of Maryland offers students two ways in which to pay their bill. Payment can be made online with a credit card or by debiting a checking account at the time of course registration. The university accepts VISA, MasterCard and Discover. Payment can also be made by check or money order payable to the University of Maryland and mailed to the Office of the Bursar, Lee Building, College Park, Md. 20742. Please ensure that a University ID is noted on any checks made payable to the university. An account statement detailing account charges, amount due and payment deadlines will be sent to each student's permanent address.
Finance charges of 1.5% of an unpaid balance are assessed monthly. Accounts not paid in full by the appropriate due date are subject to a late payment fee of 5% and are considered delinquent. Students whose accounts are delinquent will not be permitted to register for online Fire Protection Engineering courses until the outstanding balance has been paid in full.
A service fee will be assessed for all dishonored checks returned due to insufficient funds, stopped payment, or postdating. The service fees charges are as follows:
$10 charge for returned checks up to $100
$25 charge for returned checks between $100.01 and $500
$50 charge for returned checks over $500
Final Grades
Final grades are available online approximately one week after the end of each course. Final grades are also posted by the course instructor on Blackboard, the course management software platform used to deliver online Fire Protection Engineering courses.
Grade reports are not mailed automatically at the end of each term. However, students may submit a request to have a grade report mailed to their home address by accessing www.testudo.umd.edu, clicking on “Records and Registration” on the left of the page and then “View Grades.” Your Directory ID and Password will be required to access this information. Grade reports are usually mailed within two weeks of the initial request.
Transcript Requests
Students may request transcripts free of charge by visiting www.testudo.umd.edu, and clicking on “Records and Registrations,” then “Transcript Request.” Your Directory ID and Password will be required to access this information. Transcript requests received via the Internet are mailed the following business day, unless otherwise specified.
Transcripts may be requested prior to completing a course or courses using the “hold for grades” option available on the transcript request page. Students selecting this option are authorizing transcripts to be mailed once the term has concluded and final grades have been reported. Please email kjames3@umd.edu for information about the winter term “hold for grades” option.
Transcript requests will not be honored for students owing a financial obligation to the university.
Graduation
Once students have completed their program requirements and are eligible to graduate, they may apply for commencement via the Web at www.testudo.umd.edu. Click on “Records and Registration” then “Apply for Graduation.” Your Directory ID and Password will be required to access this application. The deadline for applying for graduation can be found at http://www.gradschool.umd.edu/deadlines/. Notification of a student's intention to graduate and any questions regarding graduation eligibility may be directed to kjames3@umd.edu.
